Q3 2026 Market Review

Following a strong second quarter, stock market performance was more mixed in Q3. US stocks posted a modest gain of 1.41%, while international developed markets gained 0.89% and emerging markets declined 0.37%. Bonds struggled as interest rates moved higher, with US bonds declining 3.51% and international bonds falling 1.79%. Real estate investments also faced challenges, while commodities were a bright spot, gaining 16.19% for the quarter.

This quarter provides a good reminder that different investments perform well at different times, and even traditionally conservative investments like bonds can experience periods of volatility. Rather than trying to predict which investments will perform best next, a well-diversified portfolio helps spread risk across different asset classes. As we head into the final quarter of the year, it's a good time to review your investment allocation, make sure it still aligns with your goals, and maintain a long-term perspective.
